There is also an additional single board center leaf extending the table when fully opened to 122 1/2in L. easily seating ten. It measures 54 1/2in W. and 29 3/8in H. The two tables can also be used with the leaves down as a pair of side or console tables. The secondary woods are white oak and poplar. These tables were called 'set of dining tables' or 'set of Northumberland tables' in the 19th century. Ref: 'Furniture in Maryland 1740-1940' by Gregory R. Weidman, #151, page 181.

Quervelle (1789-1856). This piece has the Quervelle characteristics of classical gilt stencil decoration, columns with gilded carved capitals, pie-shaped shelf profile with circle of gilt decoration, the original mirror framed in gilt stenciling, and gilded melon carved feet. Original white marble top. Owner's label mounted inside frame:

Recent research has documented the history of James Vint's company and the manufacture of high style neo-classical furniture in the late 19th century in Albany, New York.

In the 18th and 19th centuries in England,France and America large amounts of wine were consumed by the upper classes. This wine cellaret was designed to hold and chill bottles of wine and was lined to hold ice and water.  It could be easily moved in the diningroom with its handles and casters. Quervelle. Circa 1830. H.101 in.  W. 45 in. D. 23.5 in. This beautiful Philadelphia secretary has a cornice with spiral carving over a glass top bookcase,  with original glass and gothic arch pattern to the mullions, below there are two writing surfaces: a standup pull out writing drawer with a raised writing board, and below a pull out fitted writing compartment with an ebonized maple interior with ten drawers and the original gilt brass pulls.  This fitted interior is virtually identical to the interior a a labeled Quervelle secretary bookcase owned by the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute in Utica, N. Y. and illustrated in their book "Masterpieces of American Furniture from the Munson-Williams -Proctor Institute" by Anna Tobin D'Ambrosio. The spiral carved columns on this piece are also shown in the above book in an illustration of a manuscript pattern book with script notations in Quervelle's handwriting.  See: pages 60-61.
