The statue of Diana is carve with fine detail depicting her in classical dress with her bow and quiver of arrows over her back. She is one of a pair with the statue of the Greek god Actaeon. He was a hunter and accidentally came upon Diana and her goddesses bathing in the woods, thus seeing her naked. He stopped and admired her ravishing beauty. Once seen, Diana punished Actaeon by changing him into a stag. His own hunting dogs, not recognizing him, turned upon him and tore him to pieces. During the Victorian age these glass enclosures were very popular. Inside a Wardian case vapor from leaf transpiration and the evaporation of water from the soil condensed on the glass and fell to rewet the soil, creating a humid junglelike envirorment.
