Description:
| Antique 19th century cast iron fountain of boy, naked except for fig leaves, leaning on a tree stump and holding a dolphin with water spurting upward from dolphin's mouth. Traces of old paint, plumbed, and very heavy casting, circa 1858. Shown in the 1858 catalogue of Wood & Perot Fdy, Philadelphia, the Janes Beebe & Co. New York, 1858 catalogue, and the J.W. Fiske Fdy, N.Y. catalogue of 1868.
The statue is taken from the Rennaissance sculptor Andrea Verrocchio's (1435-1488) 'Boy with a Dolphin', including the top knot on his head.
